Improved agronomic methods taught by Mangara and increased access to fertilizer results in sustainably higher agricultural yields which means increased volumes and wider variety of local food for farmers and consumers.
Higher sustainable yields will lead to increased overall output of Sierra Leone’s agriculture sector which will attract FDIs into the sector boosting overall economy and providing more jobs along agricultural supply chains.
Using soil tests and blending technology, Mangara will be able to produce specific blends based on soil and crop. Prescriptive blending means the farmers will require less fertilizer to achieve desired yields resulting in lower environmental impact.
Higher production yields give farmers more crops to sell resulting in higher income. The average rice farmer can earn up to $700 extra per Ha with improved agronomic techniques and fertilizer application. Higher income increases access to social services such as education and healthcare.
Mangara believes skills development is the key to sustainability. As such farmers will be trained not only on fertilizer use but also agronomic methods. In addition, we will train our agro-dealers on basic business skills. As these dealers grow with experience, they will have access to third party credit facilities transforming them to entrepreneurs running their own enterprises.
